Since the Constitutional Reform Council is not included in the Constitution, BNP’s newly elected MPs did not take oath as its members. They only took oath as members of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad.
BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed said that because the council is not part of the Constitution, the oath for the Constitutional Reform Council cannot be administered at this moment.
Following this, Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin administered the oath to the newly elected MPs.
Salahuddin, elected from Cox’s Bazar–1, said, “None of us were elected as members of the Constitutional Reform Council. If it is constitutionally adopted in parliament, steps can be taken regarding it. Therefore, BNP’s lawmakers will not take oath as members of the council.”
He added that he was announcing this decision on behalf of the party’s chairman, Tarique Rahman.
