India-Pakistan still sells itself on history and noise. The hype remains deafening, but the cricket has not always followed. With bilateral series frozen, those meetings now surface only in ICC and ACC tournaments, and too many have drifted into one-sided territory.
Nannu thinks another contest has filled that vacuum. “Right now, it feels like India-Bangladesh matches are more lively than India–Pakistan games in the subcontinent.” That rings true because recent meetings carry tension, crowd involvement, and genuine uncertainty.
He doubled down on fan engagement. “People’s focus is often more on India–Bangladesh matches than India-Pakistan matches.” That shift says less about marketing and more about how competitive the games have become.
Nannu also touched a nerve by pointing at Bangladesh’s absence from the World Cup. “This World Cup is missing that excitement.” Without Bangladesh, one of the tournament’s sharper subcontinent edges has disappeared.
The numbers underline why India-Pakistan drama has cooled. India and Pakistan have met nine times in T20 World Cup history, with India winning eight and Pakistan just one. Rivalries thrive on jeopardy, not predictability.
