Former lawmaker and BNP candidate for Meherpur-1 constituency, Masud Arun, had his nomination papers collected on his behalf by his brother, Advocate Maruf Ahmed Bijon, for the 13th National Parliamentary Election.

Separately, two Jamaat-e-Islami candidates, Maulana Taj Uddin Khan and Nazmul Huda, collected nomination papers for the Meherpur-1 and Meherpur-2 constituencies, respectively.

They collected the nomination papers from the District Administrator and Returning Officer, Dr Syed Enamul Kabir, on Wednesday afternoon.

At the time, the two Jamaat candidates stated that, as a border district, candidates in the area are living in fear. They expressed concern about the potential for violence in these constituencies.

For the security of candidates, they have sought assistance from law enforcement agencies.
