BNP Standing Committee member and Chairman of the party’s Election Steering Committee Nazrul Islam Khan has instructed party activists and supporters to guard polling centers until vote counting is completed.
He emphasised that no one should leave their assigned centers without first receiving the official results.
Speaking at the BNP Election Steering Committee office in Gulshan at 11:30pm on Wednesday, Khan highlighted that 127 issues have surfaced which have disrupted the election environment, a situation he described as “undesirable.”
“Everyone must guard the centers until the votes are counted. Leave the center only after receiving the results. No one can leave without the result sheet,” he stated.
Addressing a recent statement by Jamaat-e-Islami regarding a money seizure incident, Khan questioned the legitimacy of the funds. He referred to an event at Saidpur Airport where Tk74 lakh was recovered from an individual.
While a “special political party” claimed the money belonged to a businessman, Khan pointed out that the individual’s tax returns showed only Tk3,000 in paid taxes, suggesting he was not a businessman.
Khan reiterated the BNP’s demand for a free, fair, and neutral election, noting that many activists have sacrificed their lives for this cause. He further asserted that if given the opportunity, the party would implement its election manifesto and the “July Charter.”
The press conference was also attended by BNP Election Steering Committee members Ismail Zabiullah, Mahdi Amin, Saleh Shibli, Giasuddin Rimon, Mehedul Islam, and Sattar Patwary, among others.
