Ahead of the 13th National Parliamentary Election, the BNP had earlier announced candidates for 13 out of 20 parliamentary seats in Dhaka, with 7 seats left vacant. On Thursday, BNP announced candidates for 4 of those seats.
At a press conference held at the BNP chairperson’s office in Gulshan in the capital on Thursday afternoon, the party’s Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced the names of probable candidates for 36 out of 63 constituencies across Bangladesh. On 3 November, BNP had declared candidates for 237 out of 300 national parliament seats.
The four seats announced on Thursday are: For Dhaka-7, Mohammad Hamidur Rahman, a member of the party’s Executive Committee. This area comprises Lalbagh, Chawkbazar, Bangshal, Kamrangirchar (partially), and Kotwali (partially).
For Dhaka-9, Habibur Rashid Habib, former general secretary of Chhatra Dal. This area comprises Sabujbagh, Khilgaon, and Mugda.
For Dhaka-10, Sheikh Rabiul Alam, a member of the party’s Executive Committee. This area comprises Dhanmondi, New Market, Kalabagan, and Hazaribagh areas.
For Dhaka-18, SM Jahangir, joint convener of the party’s Dhaka Metropolitan North unit. This area comprises greater Uttara and the Airport area.
3 seats still remain vacant. For Dhaka-13, National Democratic Movement Chairman Bobby Hajjaj is currently working on the election campaign in the area as an aspirant for nomination, allied with BNP.
For Dhaka-17, allied Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP) Chairman Andaleeve Rahman Partho is vying for the seat.
And, finally, for Dhaka-20, there are four aspirants from BNP for this seat. They are Tamij Uddin, president of Dhamrai Upazila BNP and member of the Central Executive Committee; Yasin Ferdous (Murad), president of Dhaka District Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal; Nazmul Hasan Abhi, convener of Dhaka District Jatiyatabadi Swayamsebak Dal; and Sultana Ahmed, general secretary of the central committee of Jatiyatabadi Mahila Dal.
