Bangladesh’s High Commissioner to Pakistan, Iqbal Hussain Khan, has confirmed that Biman Bangladesh Airlines is set to begin operating direct services to Karachi, with plans for three flights a week.
He shared the update in a conversation with The News after addressing trainees at Pakistan’s Foreign Services Academy on Wednesday, according to a report by Geo News.
In response to a question about the initiative, the high commissioner confirmed the development, saying Biman would soon link Dhaka and Karachi through scheduled direct flights.
When asked whether the new route would require passage through Indian airspace, he noted that, just as Indian carriers are permitted to use Bangladesh’s skies, Biman flights would likewise transit over India en-route to Pakistan.
Citing diplomatic sources, The News reported that Pakistan’s airlines are unlikely to fly to Dhaka in the near future due to India’s continuing restrictions on Pakistani aircraft operating through its airspace.
