An activist of BNP has been arrested with a shotgun looted from Sherpur Sadar Police Station during the July uprising.

The information was disclosed to the media on Monday afternoon. The arrest was made during a joint force operation in the Sapmari and Bhatshala union areas of Sadar upazila.

The arrestee is Harej Mia, 32, son of Jubed Ali of Sapmari West Sainik Para village in Bhatshala.

According to the joint force, the shotgun was looted from the police station on August 5, 2024.

Since then, the force had been conducting intelligence operations. Acting on a tip-off early Monday, they raided the areas, recovered the shotgun from Sapmari, and arrested Harej.

Nasrin Akhtar, Sherpur’s Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle), said a case has been registered against Harej at Sadar Police Station.

The Bangladesh Army reiterated its commitment to ensuring public safety and recovering illegal arms. Citizens have been strongly urged to assist by providing any information regarding criminal activities to the nearest army camp or law enforcement agencies.
