Bangladesh Maritime University (BMU) observed July Mass Uprising Day-2026 with commemorative programmes at its Pallabi campus in Dhaka on 5 August, honouring those killed and injured during the uprising.
The university organised a series of events, including an art exhibition and discussion session, to remember the sacrifices of victims and highlight the significance of the July Mass Uprising, the institution said in a press release.
The programmes began with the inauguration of an art exhibition titled ‘July on Canvas’, organised by the Bangladesh Maritime University Photography Club.
The exhibition was inaugurated by BMU Vice-Chancellor Rear Admiral Dr Khandakar Akhter Hossain, NBP, NUP, ndc, psc, PhD. He toured the exhibition and praised the students’ creativity, artistic efforts and expression of patriotism.
Later, the vice-chancellor distributed awards among students who secured recognition in the exhibition.
A discussion programme was held at the university auditorium, where participants reflected on the July Mass Uprising and discussed its historical importance.
Speakers paid tribute to those who lost their lives during the uprising and urged people to contribute towards building an equitable, humane and prosperous Bangladesh by drawing inspiration from their ideals and patriotism.
They also highlighted the role of educational institutions in promoting the spirit of the July Mass Uprising among the younger generation.
The event was attended by the vice-chancellor, deans of different faculties, teachers, officials, employees and students of the university.
During the programme, financial assistance was provided to BMU students who were injured during the July Mass Uprising. A prayer was also offered seeking forgiveness for the souls of those who died and wishing speedy recovery for the injured.
Through the observance, BMU reaffirmed its commitment to honouring the martyrs, standing in solidarity with the injured, and encouraging patriotism, humanitarian values and national awareness among students.
