The government has directed to postpone Tablighi Jamaat’s Bishwa Ijtema and the Zabayer group’s Khurujer Jor ahead of the election.

This directive was given in a notification issued on Tuesday, signed by home ministry Deputy Secretary Mohammad Anwar Parvez.

It stated that Tablighi Jamaat Bangladesh and Khatib and Principal of Madrasa Ulumia Duniya Malawali Mosque, Mohammad Zabayer, had requested permission to hold Bishwa Ijtema from 22 to 24 January and Khurujer Jor from 2 to 4 January at the Biswa Ijtema Ground in Tongi respectively.

However, a decision has been taken to disallow any kind of assembly or programme at the venue to facilitate smooth completion of the 13th parliamentary election and referendum, the notification read.

For this purpose, necessary instructions have been issued to the Police Headquarters, the Divisional Commissioner of Dhaka, the DIG of Dhaka Range, the Commissioner of Gazipur Metropolitan Police, the Deputy Commissioners of Dhaka and Gazipur, and others concerned.
