Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has strengthened manpower deployment, patrols and search operations along the Chuadanga border to prevent the smuggling of fuel oil amid concerns over rising international fuel prices linked to global instability and the Middle East conflict.
Special surveillance has been launched across the jurisdiction of the Chuadanga Battalion (6 BGB) following instructions from BGB Headquarters, the force said in a press release issued on Saturday.
Additional personnel have been deployed at several border points in the district, including the Darshana Integrated Checkpost (ICP), while intelligence surveillance and regular patrols have been intensified.
The move aims to prevent dishonest syndicates from hoarding or smuggling fuel oil to gain excessive profits or create artificial shortages in the domestic market during volatility in international fuel prices.
Temporary checkpoints have been set up at strategic locations to carry out thorough searches of vehicles.
Heightened alertness is also being maintained along routes previously identified as corridors used for smuggling diesel and petrol.
Strict inspections are also being conducted on both Bangladeshi and Indian freight trucks entering India through the Darshana ICP gate.
Chuadanga Battalion (6 BGB) Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Nazmul Hasan said manpower had been increased and specialised patrols and intelligence surveillance strengthened.
Suspicious vehicles and movements are being closely monitored to prevent smuggling activities, he said.
“BGB members are on maximum alert to ensure that no fuel oil is smuggled through the border routes,” said Chuadanga Battalion (6 BGB) Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Nazmul Hasan.
He said the force would maintain the highest level of vigilance to protect the country’s energy resources and strict legal action would be taken against those involved in smuggling.
