Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized Indian mobile phone components and medicines worth over Tk 1.8 million during special anti-smuggling drives along the Satkhira border on Thursday.
The operations were carried out by BGB teams under the jurisdiction of Tuluigachha, Kakdanga, and Madra Border Outposts (BOPs) in Satkhira Sadar and Kalaroa Upazilas. The total market value of the seized Indian goods is estimated at Tk1,828,600.
According to BGB sources, acting on a tip-off, two separate special operational teams from Tuluigachha BOP conducted raids in the Shalbagan and Ambagan areas of Satkhira Sadar Upazila, seizing Indian mobile phone parts.
Meanwhile, two other special teams from Kakdanga BOP recovered Indian medicines from the Keragachhi area in Kalaroa Upazila.
Additionally, a special operational team from Madra BOP seized further Indian mobile phone components from the Bhadiali area of Kalaroa Upazila. However, the smugglers managed to flee the scene after sensing the presence of the BGB members, and as a result, no arrests could be made.
Lt Col Kazi Ashiqur Rahman, Commanding Officer of the 33 BGB Battalion, confirmed the matter and stated that the confiscated Indian goods have been deposited with Satkhira Customs. He further added that BGB’s efforts to prevent smuggling will continue in the future.
