The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized Indian illegal goods worth over Tk70 lakh in separate operations conducted along the borders of Brahmanbaria and Cumilla districts, officials said on Sunday.
Based on specific intelligence information, patrol teams from the Sultanpur Battalion (60 BGB) carried out operations in various areas of Kasba Upazila in Brahmanbaria, including Goshaisthal, Kajiatli, Chandidar, Kasba, Moinpur, Madla, and Khadla.
Operations were also conducted in the Saldanadi, Shashidal, Shankuchail, and Kharera border areas of Brahmanbaria, Burichang, and Adarsha Sadar upazilas in Cumilla district.
The seized items include Indian sarees, fireworks, cumin seeds, basmati rice, puffed rice, shrimp fry, Johnson baby powder, soap, Red Bull energy drinks, mosquito coils, and octane. The estimated value of the seized goods is Tk70,04,120, according to a BGB press release.
The process of depositing the seized goods with relevant customs offices through proper legal procedures is underway.
Sultanpur Battalion Commander Lt Col SM Shariful Islam said the battalion remains vigilant in ensuring border security and preventing smuggling, in line with the BGB Director General’s directive that “BGB will be the symbol of border security and trust.”
Intelligence surveillance and operational activities in border areas have been further intensified, and this trend will continue in the future, the battalion commander added.
