Members of Border Guard Bangladesh in Maheshpur Battalion (58 BGB) seized a foreign-made pistol, a magazine, two rounds of ammunition, and 22 bottles of Indian Escaf syrup during an operation in tJibannagar border area of Chuadanga.
The operation was conducted around 2am on Tuesday. Acting on a tip-off regarding smuggling activities, a patrol team from Madhabkhali Border Outpost (BOP), under Maheshpur Battalion, took up positions near border pillar 70/6-S in Madhabkhali border area of Jibannagar Upazila.
Led by Havildar Md Saifur Rahman, the patrol team spotted unidentified smugglers who, upon sensing the presence of BGB members, abandoned a plastic net bag and fled into Indian territory.
Following the retreat of the smugglers, the abandoned bag was searched in the presence of residents. The search led to the recovery of a 7.65mm foreign-made pistol (made in USA), one magazine, two rounds of bullets, and 22 bottles of Indian Escaf syrup.
Maheshpur Battalion (58 BGB) confirmed that the process of handing over the seized firearm, ammunition, and narcotics to Jibannagar Police Station for further legal action is currently underway.
The BGB stated that their operations to prevent the smuggling of arms and drugs in border regions will continue.
