Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and local residents have successfully foiled attempts by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) to push over a hundred people into Bangladesh through eight separate points along the Jamalpur-Kurigram border.
The Jamalpur Battalion (35 BGB) confirmed the incidents in a press release issued on Tuesday afternoon, stating that the attempts occurred late Monday night across various border areas under the battalion’s jurisdiction.
According to the press release, the push-in attempts began around 12:30am near border pillar 1054 under the Dantbhanga BOP, where BSF tried to send 8 to 10 people from the Deepchar area of India.
Simultaneously, another attempt was made to push 10 to 12 people into Bangladesh through the Kuchunimara area of India, opposite pillar 1062 of the Mollarchar border.
Further attempts were reported at several locations- 12 to 13 people near pillar 1067 opposite Ijlamari BOP; 25 to 30 people near pillar 1069 opposite Khayerchar BOP; 18 to 20 people near pillar 1075 opposite Pathorchar BOP; 7 to 8 people near pillar 1073 opposite Bagarchar BOP; 8 to 10 people near pillar 1078 opposite Jhaudanga BOP; and 7 to 8 people near pillar 1087 opposite Satanipara BOP.
The BGB said that suspicion was raised when lights were turned off at these various points at different times during the night.
However, due to heightened vigilance, intensified patrols, and a firm stance by BGB personnel along with local residents, the attempted push-ins were successfully prevented.
Security measures and surveillance have since been further strengthened along the border, with local residents also assisting in round-the-clock monitoring.
Lieutenant Colonel Hasanur Rahman, commanding officer of Jamalpur Battalion (35 BGB), said BGB remains on high alert to maintain border security.
“BGB is maintaining maximum vigilance to ensure stability along the border. Strict surveillance is ongoing to prevent any kind of illegal intrusion. Our personnel are performing duties round the clock,” he said.
