The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Saturday foiled an attempt by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) to push four people into Bangladesh through the Maheshpur border in Jhenaidah.
The incident took place around 1:30pm near the Chapatala Mazar area under the jurisdiction of Kusumpur Border Outpost (BOP) in Maheshpur upazila, according to the BGB.
A patrol team from the Kusumpur BOP intercepted the four people at the zero line after BSF personnel from the Mahendra camp of its 194 Battalion allegedly attempted to push them into Bangladesh.
The group comprises two men, a woman and a child.
The four were still about 150 yards inside Indian territory from the zero line as of the latest information, the BGB said.
The BGB has informed the commander of BSF’s 194 Battalion about the incident, according to a press release issued by Munshi Imdadur Rahman, assistant director of the Maheshpur 58 BGB Battalion.
The border force said it remains vigilant to prevent push-ins and illegal crossings, ensure border security and maintain peace and order in border areas.
It has also placed the border on heightened alert to prevent further attempts to push people into Bangladesh, the release said.
