Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has been deployed at key locations across Dhaka following the arrival of the body of Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inqilab Mancha, who died while undergoing treatment in Singapore.
BGB Public Relations Officer Md Shariful Islam confirmed on Friday afternoon that troops have been stationed at sensitive areas, including the airport, Karwan Bazar, the vicinity of Hotel Intercontinental, and other strategic points throughout the city.
The capital has been tensed since news of Hadi’s death broke on Thursday night, prompting authorities to strengthen security across major roads and public areas.
Sharif Osman Hadi was critically injured on 12 December when he was shot in the head while campaigning in Bijoynagar, Dhaka.
He underwent surgery at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, was later admitted to Evercare Hospital, and subsequently flown to Singapore for advanced treatment.
He passed away on Thursday night while receiving care there. Hadi’s body arrived in Dhaka at 5:49pm on Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight BG-585.
To prevent any untoward incidents, BGB personnel were deployed across the Civil Aviation area, the Domestic Terminal, and the airport’s internal roundabout zones.
