The 76th Berlin Film Festival has officially announced its full competition line-up, showcasing a compelling mix of international auteurs and high-profile stars. This edition emphasizes Berlinale’s ongoing effort to balance arthouse credibility with global cinematic appeal.
Among the most anticipated films is “Rosebush Pruning”, directed by Karim Aïnouz and starring Riley Keough, Callum Turner, and Elle Fanning. The contemporary family thriller follows privileged siblings as they confront long-buried secrets surrounding their mother’s mysterious death. Meanwhile, Channing Tatum returns to the festival spotlight in “Josephine”, a psychological drama where he stars opposite Gemma Chan as parents grappling with trauma after their daughter witnesses a violent crime.
Now in her second year as artistic director, Tricia Tuttle has curated a competition that highlights emotionally driven storytelling while welcoming well-known talent. Amy Adams leads Kornél Mundruczó’s “At the Sea”, and Juliette Binoche appears in Lance Hammer’s “Queen at Sea”, a moving drama about dementia. Additionally, Sandra Hüller headlines Markus Schleinzer’s “Rose”, a period film set in a 17th-century German village consumed by suspicion.
The competition also features returning Berlinale regulars such as Angela Schanelec, Fernando Eimbcke, and İlker Çatak, alongside new voices from Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Animation enthusiasts will be drawn to Yoshitoshi Shinomiya’s debut feature “A New Dawn”, while music lovers can enjoy Grant Gee’s jazz-infused drama “Everybody Digs Bill Evans”.
Beyond the main competition, the festival’s Perspectives section continues to spotlight debut filmmakers. Notably, actor Ashley Walters makes his feature directorial debut with “Animol”, set inside a young offender institution.
The 76th Berlin Film Festival will run from February 12 to 22, 2026, with Wim Wenders serving as jury president. By combining Hollywood stars, emerging talent, and politically engaged cinema, this year’s Berlinale seeks to expand its international reach while remaining rooted in serious, thought-provoking filmmaking.
