After Hasan Mahmud’s six-wicket haul, Tanzid Hasan Tamim’s century and Miraz’s five-for, Bangladesh finally broke through on Australian soil, beating the hosts by nine wickets in Darwin.
Miraz, who took 5-66 from 33.1 overs, including six maidens, in the second innings, said the team’s belief in their own ability was crucial to the historic achievement.
“We played really good cricket. We have come here after a long time. The whole team performed exceptionally well and we showed what we are capable of,” Miraz said after the match.
Bangladesh posted 426 in their first innings, powered by a blistering century from Tanzid Hasan Tamim, after Hasan Mahmud’s six-wicket haul had bundled Australia out for 198. The visitors then took a commanding 228-run first-innings lead before bowling Australia out for 284 in the second innings, leaving themselves just 57 to chase. Bangladesh completed the target with nine wickets in hand to seal a landmark victory.
Against a world-class Australian side, Miraz said the message within the Bangladesh camp was simple: believe.
“Our message was that we had to believe. Without belief, this would not have been possible. We batted well and bowled well at the right moments.”
