Bangladesh Under-19s brought their ICC Under-19 World Cup campaign to a positive close with a convincing 74-run victory over Zimbabwe in their final Super Six match on 31 January 2026.
Batting first at the Harare Sports Club, the Junior Tigers overcame early pressure to post a competitive 253 for 9 before producing a dominant bowling display to bowl Zimbabwe out for 179 in 48.4 overs.
Bangladesh made a cautious start after winning the toss. Openers Rifat Beg and Zawad Abrar added 20 runs before Rifat fell for 15 off 14 balls. Azizul Hakim Tamim then joined Abrar and the pair absorbed pressure during a difficult phase. Abrar was eventually dismissed for 25 from 48 deliveries.
Tamim anchored the innings with a gritty half-century, scoring 59 off 87 balls, while Rizan Hossain provided vital support with a composed 47 from 68 balls. Despite losing wickets regularly, Bangladesh kept the scoreboard moving and remained in the hunt for a strong finish.
The late surge proved decisive. Shahriar Ahmed struck a brisk 15 off 11 balls, while Al Fahad produced an unbeaten 23 from just 13 deliveries. Bangladesh plundered 22 runs from the final over to cross the 250 mark, collecting 39 runs in the last three overs and 79 in the final ten.
For Zimbabwe, Tatenda Chimugoro, Shelton Mazhivatore and Michael Bilgnaught claimed two wickets apiece.
Defending the total, Bangladesh’s bowlers took control immediately. Iqbal Hossain Emon removed both Zimbabwe openers inside the first six runs before Al Fahad dismissed Kian Bilgnaught, leaving Zimbabwe three down for 15.
Although a brief partnership developed between captain Simbarasha Mudzingere and Leroy Chiwawula, Emon broke the stand and continued to trouble the batters with pace and accuracy. Rizan Hossain dismissed Brendan Ndhiwani, while Azizul Hakim Tamim effected a sharp stumping to remove Chimugoro.
Emon completed a superb five-wicket haul by dismissing Panashe Mazai, effectively sealing the contest. Mudzingere battled on with a fighting 70 from 121 balls, but his dismissal ended Zimbabwe’s last realistic hopes. Mazhivatore added 42, though Zimbabwe were eventually bowled out well short of the target.
Player of the match Iqbal Hossain Emon finished with five wickets, Al Fahad took two, and Rizan Hossain and Azizul Hakim Tamim claimed one each.
