Bangladesh secured one of the most significant Test victories in their history on Sunday, beating Australia by nine wickets in Darwin to claim their first Test win on Australian soil. The result was built on a strong all-round performance, with Bangladesh taking a 228-run first-innings lead after dismissing Australia for 198.
Tanzid Hasan Tamim played a key role in creating that advantage. The opener scored 101 in Bangladesh’s first innings, becoming the first Bangladeshi batter to score a Test century in Australia. His century came in only his second Test and helped Bangladesh post 426, putting Australia under sustained pressure.
Tanzid’s innings was notable not only for the runs but also for the way he adapted his approach. Known for his attacking batting in white-ball cricket, he showed patience in Darwin and played the ball on its merit, spending enough time at the crease to build important partnerships.
Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto was pleased with the way the opener handled the occasion and showed that he can make the transition to Test cricket.
“Yeah, obviously, I think he’s exciting. If you look at his white-ball game, he always plays attacking cricket, but in this Test match he showed his character. He was very calm and played merit of the ball,” Shanto said.
“We all know he has that ability to play Test cricket, and as a top-order batsman we want someone to impact for the team and he delivered this match.” Shanto said after the historic win.
