The 12th edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) ended more than three months ago, yet Dhaka Capitals have still not cleared their dues. Cricketers have received only 25 percent of their payments, despite being entitled to 75 percent before the conclusion of the tournament.
Dhaka Capitals also failed to settle the payments within the 45-day deadline set by the BPL Governing Council. Several players, including Shamim Hossain Patwari, are yet to receive their dues.
Speaking at an event at Bashundhara Sports City on Saturday, BPL Governing Council Member Secretary Iftekhar Rahman Mithu said, “We had set a 45-day deadline. The structure was 25 percent before the tournament, 50 percent during it, and the remaining 25 percent after it ends. But Dhaka’s players have received only 25 percent, which we came to know later.”
Mithu revealed that Dhaka Capitals still owe around BDT 3 crore. However, the franchise claims the outstanding amount is only BDT 1 crore, which they intend to pay from their share of the BPL’s revenue-sharing model. The stipulated 45-day period has now stretched to 60 days.
Frustrated with the delay, Mithu made it clear that no further time will be given to the franchise and action will be taken within this week.
“Sixty days have already passed, and there is a limit to our patience. So, we will move towards action this week. We have a bank guarantee of BDT 5 crore and a cheque of another BDT 5 crore from them. If they fail to pay within the next couple of days, we will have to take alternative measures,” he told reporters.
