The Bangladesh Cricket Board has announced the launch of a new domestic tournament, the Sonar Bangla Pathway T20 Cricket League, designed to provide competitive opportunities for players outside the country’s franchise and club systems.
The league, set to begin in the first week of January 2026, will feature six to eight teams and will be played across two venues, Bogura and Rajshahi. Faruque Ahmed, vice president of the BCB, will lead the organisation of the tournament.
“The aim is to strengthen the domestic cricket pathway and give emerging players a chance to showcase their talent at a professional level,” Ahmed said.
Players eligible for selection include those who were in the BPL T20 2025–26 auction list but went unpicked by franchises, as well as cricketers who had signed for teams that did not compete in the Dhaka First Division Cricket League. Selection will be conducted by the National Selection Panel, while the BCB will appoint team managements to ensure consistent standards across the competition.
The board will also handle all financial matters, including player payments, underscoring its commitment to a professional framework.
