Former adviser to the interim government Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan will be joining the National Citizen Party (NCP) ahead of the upcoming 13th national parliamentary elections expected to be held on 12 February next year.

Arifur Rahman Tuhin, joint chief coordinator of the NCP, confirmed the matter to TIMES of Bangladesh on Monday. Prior to this, Asif had mentioned that he may be participating in the election as an independent candidate.

Asif stated that to make a formal announcement regarding this matter, the NCP has called an emergency press conference, where the matter of his joining will be confirmed.

Asif himself is expected to be at the press conference.

Prior to this, on 10 December, Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan and Mahfuj Alam resigned from their respective posts as advisers to the interim government.

Both had joined as advisers to the government were advisors of the interim government as representatives of the students who had led the July uprising last year.

Mahfuj served as an adviser to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting while Asif Mahmud served as an adviser to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives as well as the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
