The Bangladesh Cricket Board was unable to make any communication with M Najmul Islam. A reckless comment about the cricketers triggered chaos in Bangladeshi cricket. Following the remark, players boycotted matches demanding his removal, there were rumors of the BPL being suspended, and late Thursday night the board reached an understanding with the players. Yet Najmul remained unreachable.
As a result, both matches on the first day of the Dhaka phase of the BPL were canceled. To resolve the deadlock, BCB met with the players’ organization QOAB at 11 PM. The BPL resumed on Friday with a new schedule. Najmul was relieved from his position as head of the Finance Committee, but board officials failed to contact him throughout the day.
Iftekhar Rahman Mithu, Member Secretary of the BPL Governing Council, said, “We tried to communicate with him all day. We wanted to bring him here today, but it was not possible to reach him.”
On Wednesday evening, Najmul had said, “Why? If they go there and still can’t do anything, playing badly, then all the crores of taka we are spending on them, are we asking for that money back from them or not? Answer this question for me.”
This comment angered the players, who issued an ultimatum that if he was not removed, all cricket would stop. Mithu added, “What happened today (Thursday) has happened, the matches didn’t take place. You all know the director (Najmul) made that comment. Actions have been taken against him, he has been removed from his committee and summoned for explanation according to procedure. He has been given 48 hours, which will end at noon on the 17th, to submit his reply. After that, it will go to the Disciplinary Committee.”
When asked what would happen if Najmul does not respond, Mithu said, “According to the constitution, a committee will be formed, and he will be summoned. If he doesn’t respond, you know the consequences. We will go strictly by the book. Already, being summoned and removed from the BCB is a record.”
