On Thursday, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) conducted interviews for two positions on the national team selection panel. Applicants appeared before a panel of former cricketers currently on the BCB board. BCB president Aminul Islam Bulbul participated virtually, alongside directors Faruk Ahmed, Abdur Razzak Raj, and Khaled Masud Pilot.
The tenure of chief selector Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu ends this month. Consequently, BCB had advertised vacancies for both a chief selector and an assistant selector. Over 25 candidates applied, but after initial screening, 16 were shortlisted for interviews.
According to BCB sources, several candidates have made it to the final shortlist. While no official confirmation has been given, a source involved in the process told The Times of Bangladesh that Habibul Bashar Sumon is being considered for the chief selector role.
A senior official, speaking on condition of anonymity to Times of Bangladesh, said, “We have interviewed everyone. The final decision will be taken internally, and then BCB’s cricket operations department will implement it.”
Meanwhile, two candidates are leading the race for the assistant selector position. On the BCB’s preferred list are Tushar Imran and Naim Islam, with reliable sources indicating that Naim is currently ahead. Accordingly, it appears that one of these two will be appointed as the new assistant selector.
