Two men, including a Bangladeshi, were killed and three others injured in a chain-reaction crash on the Duta–Ulu Kelang Expressway (DUKE) in Malaysia Saturday afternoon, authorities said.
According to Malay Mail, the crash was triggered when a lorry broke down and came to a halt in the middle lane. A pickup truck following behind was unable to avoid the stationary vehicle and collided with it.
Another lorry stopped at the scene to offer assistance, but a third lorry, approaching from the rear, reportedly lost control and struck the vehicles, setting off a chain-reaction pile-up.
The victims, aged 52 and 53, were pronounced dead at the scene. Police identified them as a local lorry driver and a Bangladeshi pickup driver. Both were outside their vehicles at the time and sustained severe head and body injuries.
Three others — two men aged 43 and 35, and a 38-year-old foreign national — were injured and taken to Hospital Kuala Lumpur for treatment.
According to the report, Kuala Lumpur traffic investigations chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said preliminary investigations indicate the crash was caused by the third lorry driver’s loss of control.
A breathalyser test returned negative, while a urine test is pending.
The case is under investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Authorities have urged anyone with information to contact the Tun HS Lee traffic police station or the nearest police station.
