Bangladesh Women’s Futsal Team clinched the first SAFF Women’s Futsal Championship on Sunday in Bangkok by crushing Maldives 14-2, sealing the title through dominance, depth, and relentless attacking play across the tournament.
This tournament marked SAFF’s first-ever women’s futsal competition, and Bangladesh owned it from start to finish. They topped a seven-team table with 16 points from six matches and never looked like surrendering control.
The final match followed the same pattern. Bangladesh pressed high, moved the ball quickly, and pinned Maldives deep in their own half. The pressure forced errors and opened lanes, which Bangladesh attacked without mercy.
Sabina Khatun led from the front. She scored four times in the final and finished the tournament with 13 goals, setting the tone with leadership and composure. Her influence turned sustained possession into decisive outcomes.
Bangladesh’s attacking numbers tell the story. They scored 38 goals across the tournament and conceded just nine, a gap that reflected structure as much as flair. Goalkeeper Swapna Akhter Jhili anchored the defence with calm assurance whenever danger surfaced.
The wider campaign showed balance. Bangladesh beat India to set the tone, drew with Bhutan, then brushed aside Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Nepal, and finally Maldives. Each win tightened their grip on the trophy.
While the men’s team struggled to make an impact, the women delivered a statement. They stayed unbeaten, played with authority, and claimed a historic crown. SAFF futsal has a first champion, and Bangladesh Women have set the benchmark.
