The South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) will host its inaugural SAFF Futsal Championship for both men and women from 13–26 January 2026 in Thailand, according to a press release from the regional football body on Sunday.
SAFF general secretary Purushottam Kattel highlighted the need for the tournament, noting that while all FIFA member associations are expected to actively participate in futsal and beach soccer alongside traditional football, South Asia has lagged behind in these disciplines.
“We’ve also observed a significant shortage of officials involved in futsal compared to other regions,” Kattel said. “That’s why it’s crucial for us to initiate futsal development in our region. The Executive Committee has already approved the decision, and we’re grateful for the support from both FIFA and the AFC for this historic event.”
The tournament marks a significant step in promoting futsal across South Asia.
