Bangladesh has reiterated its commitment to strengthen maritime cooperation with Small Island Developing States (SIDS), highlighting shared priorities on climate resilience, security and sustainable growth.

The pledge came during a special programme hosted by Abida Islam, Bangladesh High Commissioner to the UK and Permanent Representative to the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

The programme held at Bangladesh High Commission, London, with envoys from SIDS countries.

Abida has remarked, Bangladesh’s identity as a maritime nation and stressed the urgency of collective efforts to confront global challenges such as climate change and ocean governance.

She also conveyed that Bangladesh is prepared to work with SIDS members to promote common goals at the IMO and beyond.

Diplomats welcomed Bangladesh’s proactive role in advancing sustainable maritime governance and acknowledged its leadership in both regional and global maritime platforms.

The programme served as a platform to deepen partnerships and chart new avenues of cooperation, reflecting Bangladesh’s growing role in international maritime diplomacy and its commitment to equitable collaboration with climate-vulnerable nations.
