The Ministry of Cultural Affairs has initiated preparations for the upcoming birth anniversary celebrations of Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam, with a series of cultural programmes planned across the country.
This year marks the 165th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore and the 127th birth anniversary of Kazi Nazrul Islam. A coordination meeting held at the Secretariat on Sunday outlined national and regional observances involving cultural performances, discussions and commemorative events.
As part of the Tagore anniversary programme, cultural events, Rabindra fairs and discussion sessions will be held on May 8 in Shahjadpur in Sirajganj, Patishar in Naogaon, as well as Dakshindihi and Pithabhog in Khulna, with local authorities assisting in the arrangements.
A commemorative publication of 1,000 copies along with 10,000 posters will be produced. An exhibition of Tagore’s artworks is also planned at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in Dhaka.
The main national programme for Kazi Nazrul Islam’s anniversary is scheduled for May 25 in Trishal, Mymensingh. Local events, including fairs and discussions, will also be organised in Daulatpur in Cumilla, Teota in Manikganj, Karpasdanga in Chuadanga and Chattogram.
Institutions such as the Nazrul Institute and the Department of Public Libraries will stage exhibitions of books and photographs focusing on Nazrul’s life and works.
Educational institutions across Bangladesh will take part through essay competitions, discussions and recitation programmes dedicated to both literary figures. The events are expected to be broadcast live on Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Betar and private media channels, while Bangladeshi missions abroad will also mark the occasions.
Security arrangements for all national and regional programmes will be coordinated by relevant authorities, including the Ministry of Home Affairs.
