Bangladesh are on the verge of an innings victory over Ireland, with the visitors struggling at 86 for five at stumps on the third day of the first Test at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on 13 November.
Bangladesh excel with the bat
Bangladesh declared their first innings at 587 for eight, establishing a huge 301-run lead. Mahmudul Hasan Joy starred with a brilliant 171, while captain Najmul Hossain Shanto contributed a century. Muminul Haque added 82, and Liton Das scored 60, setting a commanding platform for their bowlers.
Ireland falter in reply
Ireland began their second innings in the final session of the day but lost early wickets. Opener Cade Carmichael fell for five off eight balls, trapped by Nahid Rana. Paul Stirling offered resistance, scoring 43 from 59 balls, before being run out courtesy of a brilliant throw from Shanto. Harry Tector was next, trapped LBW by Taijul Islam for 18 from 47 deliveries.
Towards the end of the day, Curtis Campher (5 off 19 balls) and Lorcan Tucker (9 off 20 balls) tried to stabilise the innings but were both dismissed by Murad Hasan. Ireland finished the day at 86 for five after 29 overs.
Bangladesh’s bowlers were in fine form, with Hasan Murad picking up two wickets, while Nahid Rana and Taijul Islam claimed one wicket each.
