Police have detained Jasmine Akhtar from her residence in the West Dashra area of the Manikganj municipality on Wednesday.
Md Kamal Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sadar Police Station confirmed the information.
She was the former panel mayor and Awami League leader of Manikganj municipality. She had also served as the reserved female councilor for Wards No 7, 8, and 9. The council of Manikganj municipality was dissolved after August 2024.
Jasmine went to Canada with her husband and two children after 5 August, 2024. She recently returned to the country alone.
Kamal added that Jasmine is being interrogated at the police station. After the interrogation is completed, she will be produced in court.
