The International Cricket Council applies penalties under Article 2.22 of its Code of Conduct, which governs minimum over-rate offences. Teams receive a five per cent fine per over short, which led directly to the 10 per cent penalty in this case. The regulation aims to maintain match tempo and ensure timely completion of innings.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz accepted the charge and admitted the offence. His decision removed the need for a formal hearing and confirmed the sanction without further review. This approach reflects standard procedure when captains accept responsibility.
On-field umpires Richard Illingworth and Gazi Sohel, along with third umpire Nitin Menon and fourth umpire Masudur Rahman Mukul, levelled the charge. Their report established the shortfall after reviewing over completion rates.
Bangladesh won the match by six wickets to level the three-match series. The fine does not affect the result but highlights a breach of match regulations.
