The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has reconstituted the 15-member Bangladesh Film Certification Board to make the country’s film certification process more effective and better coordinated.
The development was announced in a government gazette notification signed by Deputy Secretary Mohammad Aslam Molla on 29 July.
According to the notification, the board has been formed under the authority of the Bangladesh Film Certification Act.
The Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting will serve as the Chairperson of the board, while the Vice Chairman of the Bangladesh Film Certification Board will act as the Member Secretary.
Other members include the Additional Secretary (Film) of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, a representative from the Law and Justice Division, a representative from the Press Wing of the Chief Adviser’s Office, a representative from the Ministry of Home Affairs, and the Managing Director of the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC).
The reconstituted board also includes former Bangladesh Film Journalists’ Association (BACHSAS) president and film researcher Abdur Rahman, Bangladesh Film Artistes’ Association President Shiba Sanu, actress Quazi Nawshaba Ahmed, lyricist Prince Mahmud, singer Dithi Anwar, Bangladesh Film Exhibitors’ Association President Awlad Hossain, and Bangladesh Film Directors’ Association President Shaheen Sumon.
The ministry said the reconstituted board is expected to strengthen and streamline the film certification process in Bangladesh through greater institutional coordination and representation from both government bodies and the film industry.
