Bangladesh do not feature at the World Cup, but the country’s supporters continue to draw attention across the tournament, with Brazil and Argentina celebrations repeatedly surfacing across international coverage. Now Brazil goalkeeper Alisson Becker has joined the growing list of players acknowledging that support.
Brazil reached the last 16 after a tense 2-1 win against Japan on Monday. The Selecao recovered after falling behind, with Casemiro pulling them level before Brazil found the winner.
After the match, Casemiro stopped in the mixed zone and thanked supporters in Bangladesh. Alisson later delivered his own message through T Sports.
“Thank you Bangladesh for supporting us like this. I have seen several videos,” Alisson said.
“I want to thank the people of Bangladesh. Brazilians also love Bangladesh. I am grateful for so much love. God bless you.”
Bangladesh has built a long connection with Brazilian and Argentine football over several decades. During every major tournament, streets fill with giant flags, processions and celebrations that often attract attention outside the country.
Alisson is not the first World Cup player to mention that connection. Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez also spoke about Bangladesh earlier in the tournament after his side’s match against Jordan.
“I love Bangladesh very much. I have been there in person and seen how crazy they are for us. Lots and lots of love for everyone in Bangladesh,” he said.
Brazil have already secured a place in the last 16 and will now wait for Norway or Ivory Coast. Argentina face Cape Verde on 4 July in their knockout tie.
