Bangladesh has exported hatching eggs for the first time under the present government, with Kazi Farms Limited shipping an inaugural consignment to Nigeria as the government signalled its ambition to build a livestock export industry after meeting domestic demand.
The first shipment, comprising 10,440 Ross 308 parent hatching eggs valued at $18,729, was formally inaugurated at the Cargo Village of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Sunday. Fisheries and Livestock State Minister Sultan Salauddin Tuku attended the ceremony as chief guest and said the government aims to export high-quality livestock products after satisfying local demand, according to a press release.
“Our main objective is to export livestock products to international markets after fulfilling local requirements. This export will significantly boost the national economy and accelerate the country’s overall development,” Tuku said.
He said the prime minister had directed every sector of the economy to become export-oriented and expressed confidence that the fisheries and livestock sector would gradually emerge as a strong export-driven industry.
Describing the inaugural consignment as a historic milestone, the state minister said it would create new opportunities to diversify Bangladesh’s export basket.
“When Bangladesh successfully exports products after satisfying its own domestic demand, it reflects our national capability. This is not merely a commercial venture, but a prestigious international recognition of our livestock industry,” he said, adding that exports of livestock products would expand further and contribute to foreign exchange earnings.
Department of Livestock Services Director General Md Shahzaman Khan, the special guest at the event, said the department was working under the ministry’s guidance to develop an internationally compliant livestock sector.
