Since Sunday afternoon, the Bangladesh Bank website has been inaccessible, and the issue had not been resolved by 6pm.
When contacted at around 5:45pm, Bangladesh Bank spokesperson Arif Hossain Khan could not provide information regarding the cause of the problem.
At the same time, when Executive Director-1 of the ICT Division Zakir Hasan was called, he stated that he was not aware of the matter. He told Times of Bangladesh, “No one has informed me about this yet. I am looking into the issue.”
Earlier, at 2:30pm, Bangladesh Bank officials were unable to use the central bank’s webmail. One official mentioned that despite multiple attempts, he could not access the mail server.
Prior to this, on April 5, 2023, the Bangladesh Bank server was down for 7 hours. During that time, internet banking, check clearing, and local and international payment settlements were disrupted.
At 6:11pm, ICT Division’s Executive Director Deb Dulal Roy told Times of Bangladesh, “Our team is working on it. It will be resolved soon.”
The website became operational a little after 7pm. Executive Director Deb Dulal Roy stated that there were no issues with interbank transactions during this time.
