Bangladesh Bank Governor Md Mostaqur Rahman said the mandatory implementation of Bangla QR will make financial transactions safer, easier, and faster, while significantly reducing the risks associated with carrying physical cash.
Speaking as the chief guest at a ceremony to distribute prizes among the 10 winners of “Bangla QR Reels Making Competition” at Bangladesh Bank head office on Monday, the governor highlighted that the system has been mandatory across the country since 1 July.
He emphasised that moving towards this digital payment method would also eliminate the hassles caused by counterfeit and mutilated notes.
The governor noted that Bangladesh is aligning with global trends by adopting modern digital technology for financial transactions, adding that more advanced technologies will be integrated in the future.
He further informed that the central bank has issued necessary directives to all banks and Mobile Financial Services (MFS) providers to ensure that customers have full access to Bangla QR facilities.
The competition was organised by Bangladesh Bank with the specific aim of raising public awareness and expanding the usage of the QR system to ensure a more secure financial environment.
The event was also attended by the deputy governors of Bangladesh Bank, head of the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU), and various executive directors and directors.
