The authorities of Bangla Academy have announced the recipients of the Gunijon Smrity Puroshkar 2026, marking the ongoing Amar Ekushey Book Fair 2026.
Under the Chittaranjan Saha Smrity Puroshkar, publishing house Kathaprokash has been honoured for publishing the highest number of quality books in 2025 in terms of subject matter and standards.
The Munier Chowdhury Smrity Puroshkar has been awarded to three publishers for the best books published in 2025, considering literary and artistic merit. The recipients are Oitijjhya, for ‘Kali-Kolom Ar Kagojer Odd Research: Fountain Pen by Amin Babu’; Prothoma Prokashan, for ‘Shilalipi: Banglar Arabi-Farsi Protnolekhmala’ by Muhammad Yusuf Siddiq; and The University Press Limited, for ‘Barisal and Beyond: Essays on Bangla Literature by Clinton B. Seely’.
The Roknuzzaman Khan Dadabhai Smrity Puroshkar has been given to Panjeree Publications Ltd. for publishing the highest number of quality children’s books in 2025.
Meanwhile, Shohoj Prokash has received the Sardar Joyenuddin Smrity Puroshkar for publishing the highest number of quality titles among publishers that first participated in the book fair in 2024 or 2025.
For aesthetic stall design at the fair, the Artist Kaiyum Chowdhury Smrity Puroshkar has been awarded to three publishers: Creative Dhaka Publications (Stalls 503–504), Matra Prokash (Stalls 873–874) and Bengalbooks (Stalls 617–621).
The final day of the book fair will be held on Sunday, March 15. The fair will remain open from 2:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
The closing ceremony will begin at 3:00 pm. Director General of Bangla Academy, Mohammad Azam, will deliver the welcome address, while the fair’s member secretary Md Selim Reza will present the report.
Cultural Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury will attend the event as the chief guest. State Minister for Cultural Affairs Ali Nawaz Mahmud Khayyam will be present as the special guest, while Cultural Affairs Secretary Md Mofidur Rahman will deliver the greetings.
The aforementioned awards will formally be presented at the ceremony, which will be presided over by Abul Kasem Fazlul Huq, president of Bangla Academy.
