Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Asif Nazrul on Wednesday dismissed the possibility of lifting the ban on the activities of the Awami League in the near future.
The adviser made the statement in response to questions from journalists following his visit to a Puja Mandap at Sree Sree Sankar Math in Barishal city.
He explained that when a party’s activities are banned, questions arise regarding whether the ban is permanent or temporary. “I do not foresee any possibility that the ban on Awami League activities will be lifted anytime soon,” he said.
Asif Nazrul also confirmed that the national elections will be held in the first half of February 2026.
Addressing the unrest in the Chattogram Hill Tracts, he stated that the government would take appropriate action against those responsible. During his visit, the adviser met and exchanged greetings with leaders of the Hindu community.
Barishal Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Delwar Hussain, Superintendent of Police Md Sharif Uddin, Sree Sree Sankar Math Barishal Committee President Kanu Lal Saha, and former General Secretary Tammay Topu were also present.
