After eight consecutive rounds of price hikes, the Bangladesh Jewellers’ Association (BAJUS) has finally reduced gold prices slightly in the local market.
In a press release issued Wednesday night, the Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring of the Bangladesh Jeweller’s Association (BAJUS) made the decision at a meeting.
As per the new rates, the price of 22-carat gold has been reduced by Tk 1,470 per bhori. From Thursday, this grade of gold will be sold at Tk 1,88,152 per bhori.
BAJUS said the adjustment was made following a fall in the price of pure gold in the local market.
Earlier, gold prices had surged by Tk 18,000 over eight consecutive hikes. On Tuesday alone, the price of 22-carat gold rose by Tk 3,675 per bhori, only to drop by Tk 1,470 the very next day.
According to the revised rates, 21-carat gold will now cost Tk 1,79,602 per bhori, 18-carat gold Tk 1,53,941 per bhori, and traditional gold Tk 1,27,674 per bhori.
The prices include 5% VAT set by the government and a minimum 6% making charge fixed by BAJUS. However, the making charge may vary depending on design and quality, the association added.
