Actress Azmeri Haque Badhan has responded to criticism over her decision to join director Mohammad Iqbal’s upcoming film Gulshaner Chameli, where she will portray a lawyer.
The announcement of her casting sparked debate on social media, with some questioning why the actress, known for critically acclaimed films such as Rehana Maryam Noor and The Difficult Bride, chose to appear in a commercial production.
Breaking her silence, Badhan defended her decision in a Facebook post on Sunday, saying no one else has the right to dictate her career choices.
“Agreeing to work on this film (Gulshaner Chameli) was genuinely a very difficult decision for me. However, I really liked the story. I also sincerely appreciate the respect and support I have received from the entire team so far,” she wrote.
Reflecting on her acting career, Badhan said every project had contributed to her growth as an artiste.
“Over the years, I have worked with many directors on different kinds of productions. Every experience has taught me something. Some experiences were wonderful, while others were challenging, but each one has helped shape who I am today. I am grateful to Allah for everything I have received and for the countless blessings in my life. Every experience has made me stronger,” she added.
Addressing critics directly, the actress urged people not to waste their time advising her about her personal decisions.
“One thing I truly believe is that no one pays my bills or lives my life for me. So please do not waste your valuable time giving me advice about my decisions. I have people in my life whose opinions I trust, respect and listen to. I am happy with my life, and Insha’Allah, I will continue to grow and become even happier with time,” she wrote.
Directed by Mohammad Iqbal, Gulshaner Chameli also stars Madhumita Sarcar, Omar Sani, Misa Sawdagar, Rozina, Amin Khan, Ashish Khandaker and several others.
