Gono Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur on Saturday said that the process to legally ban the Awami League, whose political activities have already been prohibited, is underway.
“In the ongoing judicial proceedings, both the Awami League and the Jatiya Party (JaPa) will be banned. Gono Odhikar Parishad has nothing personal to feel good or bad about it, this is a legal process,” Nur said while addressing party activists and locals at Syedpur Airport in Nilphamari.
He said those responsible for opening fire on protesters during the July uprising must face justice. “There will be no place for fascism in the future. Those who crippled the country and laundered money abroad over the past 16 years must also be brought to justice,” he added.
Nur warned that if fascism is not tried, one-party rule will return to the country. “We do not want to see students taking to the streets and getting shot like Abu Sayeed,” he said, referring to a protester killed during the July movement.
Leaders of the Gono Odhikar Parishad’s Syedpur unit, including its general secretary Nur Alam Bhorsa, were present at the event.
