National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam has strongly condemned the alleged harassment of Muhammad Yunus, former chief adviser and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, at John F Kennedy (JFK) International Airport in the United States.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Nahid said, “The attempt to harass Muhammad Yunus has once again exposed the violent and inhumane character of the Awami League’s terror-based politics. We strongly condemn and protest such ill-intentioned attempts by fascist terrorists.”

He also said, “Even two years after being completely rejected by the public, no change has occurred in the character of the Awami League’s terrorist forces. There is not even the slightest sign of regret among them for their past misdeeds.”

Calling for the complete dismantling of this “terrorist” network active both at home and abroad, Nahid said the trials of individuals involved in enforced disappearances and killings during the “fascist” regime must be concluded and the verdicts executed swiftly.

He also demanded the immediate commencement of the trial of the Awami League as a political party on charges of “mass killings and terrorism”.

Nahid urged the government to take effective measures to ensure the security of the former chief adviser and other members of the interim government.

He added, “At a critical juncture for the nation, members of the interim government, including Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus, have taken the helm of the country to lead the restoration of democracy and the reconstruction of an economy reduced to ruins. The government must take effective measures to ensure the safety of all of them.”
