Home Minister Salauddin Ahmed has said the Awami League has no ability to carry out sabotage. “Sitting abroad, they only make some threats,” he added.
The minister also said that although extremist groups have at times attempted acts of sabotage or wrongdoing, law enforcement agencies have remained highly vigilant in this regard.
He was speaking to journalists at the Secretariat in Dhaka on Monday afternoon.
The minister stated that on 5 August, marking the anniversary of the July uprising, the BNP and its like‑minded parties will hold programmes, for which a meeting has been called.
On the issue of former Inspector General of Police Benazir Ahmed, who was arrested in Dubai, he said, “The government has taken all possible steps and is trying to cancel his bail and bring him back to the country.”
He also spoke about the attack on the NCP’s programme, saying that an investigation is underway.
Additionally, he mentioned that Sergio Gor, the U.S. Special Envoy for South and Central Asia, expressed satisfaction after visiting Bangladesh and meeting with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
