An auto-rickshaw driver was killed after two auto-rickshaws collided in the Ghundighar area of Gendaria in the capital on Tuesday morning.
The deceased was identified as Golam Mostafa, 52.
The accident occurred at around 8:00am. Family members rushed him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in a critical condition, where doctors declared him dead at around 10:30am.
The victim’s son, Md Yusuf, said their home is in Hasail village under Tongibari upazila of Munshiganj. The family now lives on Shaheed Faruk Road in Jatrabari. His father worked as an auto-rickshaw driver.
He said Golam Mostafa had left home with his auto-rickshaw in the morning. The family later learnt that he had been injured in a road accident in Gendaria. Passers-by initially took him to Sir Salimullah Medical College (Mitford) Hospital. He was later transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead after examination.
Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital police camp, confirmed the death, citing the attending doctor.
He said the body has been kept at the morgue for an autopsy and Gendaria Police Station has been informed.
