Australia will not deploy a navy ship to the Strait of Hormuz, the country’s Transport Minister Catherine King said on Monday, despite US President Donald Trump calling for allies to send warships to secure the strategic waterway.
King told national broadcaster ABC, “We won’t be sending a ship to the Strait of Hormuz. We know how incredibly important that is but that’s not something we’ve been asked or are contributing to.”
The announcement comes amid heightened tensions in the Gulf, with Washington seeking international support to protect vital shipping lanes through the Strait of Hormuz.
