Gono Odhikar Parishad General Secretary Md Rashed Khan on Wednesday said the attackers of party President Nurul Haque Nur must be brought to book as the attack was not only carried out on him but also on the mass uprising.
He made the statements while addressing a rally held during road blockade at Paltan Intersection in the capital.
Hundreds of leaders and activists of the party held a protest march and then blocked Paltan Intersection for an hour to press home their demands.
They demanded the immediate resignation of Home Adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdhury for his failure to fend off the attack on party president Nurul Haque Nur and other party members.
The protesters also called for the trial of those responsible for the attack and a ban on the politics of the Jatiya Party and the 14-party alliance.
Rashed also raised questions regarding the selective arrests of political figures, asking why figures like Rashed Khan Menon and Hasanul Haque Inu are behind bars while Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader gets off scot-free.
“Why has GM Quader not been arrested when Menon and Inu are? Who is sheltering whom? There is no room for making Jatiya Party the opposition. Awami League has been banned as a fascist party, and now Jatiya Party and the 14-party alliance must also be banned,” Rashed stated.
He further said if the government does not ensure justice for the attack, it would tarnish the image of the entire security forces.
After the rally, the party announced that they will hold next programme under the banner of the “Anti-Fascism Unity” in front of Shahbagh Museum in the capital on September 5.
