The death toll from the ongoing floods in Assam has climbed to 41 after 10 more people lost their lives in the past 24 hours, according to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).
The Assam government on Wednesday described the current flooding in parts of eastern Assam as the worst the region has witnessed in six decades, reports The Hindu.
Over the past month, the disaster has affected more than 8 lakh people.
ASDMA’s latest late-night bulletin said the latest fatalities were reported from five districts. At the same time, the number of flood-hit districts declined from 16 to 11.
“The floods have affected 6,53,164 people across 939 villages and crops on 24,897.27 hectares of land.
The district authorities have set up 106 relief camps, where 24,418 people have taken shelter,” an ASDMA spokesperson said.
