A platform named Moncho 24 on Monday demanded the immediate arrest and speedy trial of those involved in the killing of Sharif Osman Hadi, along with reforms in intelligence agencies and the removal of what it described as “Indian agents” from state institutions and the media ahead of the national election.
The demands were made at a press conference held at Madhur Canteen on Dhaka University campus, addressed by Moncho 24 representative Fahim Faruki.
He also expressed solidarity with the ongoing blockade programme of the Inqilab Moncho.
Faruki criticised the interim government’s handling of the murder, alleging that its response contradicted the ideals of Shaheed Abu Sayeed and Wasim Mugdho. He accused the authorities of failing to ensure the safety of political activists.
“If a government that could not protect its citizens also fails to deliver justice, it will send a dangerous message,” he said. “Such failure will encourage criminal groups.”
Referring to the investigation, Faruki said the suspect Faisal represented only a small part of a larger network. He alleged that the government has yet to provide a firm assurance regarding Faisal’s return, describing this as a sign of institutional weakness.
Faruqi also raised allegations of foreign influence, claiming that individuals aligned with Indian interests remain active within military intelligence and sections of the media, posing a threat to national sovereignty and a free and fair election.
As a possible form of protest, he mentioned the option of suspending remittance flows.
Describing Hadi as a key cultural and political inspiration of the 2024 student–public movement, Faruki said his role in anti-hegemonic struggles made him a target of what he termed domestic and foreign conspiracies.
He further alleged that political forces acted against Hadi after his name appeared on a “Delhi list,” though no evidence was presented.
At the press conference, Moncho 24 placed four demands including immediate arrest of Hadi’s killers and their associates, with completion of the trial within 25 days; structural reform of intelligence agencies before the election and identification of alleged foreign agents within them; state action against media figures accused of promoting anti-national or foreign agendas; reassessment and cancellation of work permits of Indian nationals in Bangladesh, and filing a case in an international court against India if the accused killers are not returned.
There was no immediate response from the government regarding the allegations or demands.
